Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!
Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time.
Most of you know I’ve made some... interesting sacrifices for the sake of my career. In fact, if you recall a few years ago, I actually got rid of my bed so I could have a functioning office with all of the space my little organization-lovin’ mind needed.
(Yes, that means I sleep on a couch. The life of an author is very glamorous.)
Now, what you may not know is that I finally saved up to redecorate said office. That’s right—no more duct-taped, worn out furniture (in that room)! Check it out:
So, why am I posting this for IWSG? Because my space used to be an insecurity of mine. It’s hard to feel like a professional when you’re working from a glorified storage room. I know plenty of you know what I’m talking about here.
The point is, our situations change.
Am I a bestselling, “bazillionaire” author living in a life-sized replica of Serenity? No, no I am not. But I did save up enough royalties to improve something that bothered me. That’s progress. :)
