Greetings, A-Zers! It’s day 05 of the 2015 A-Z blog challenge, and my theme is “The Business of Writing: A Glossary”. I know everyone is busy making rounds this month, so I’ve done my best to keep each post informative and to-the-point. :) Today’s letter is:

E is for Exclusivity

Loose Definition: This is when one party grants another party sole rights in a contract. Exciting, I know.

Put to Use

The easiest example of this in the writing world is Amazon’s KDP Select program. In order to receive its benefits (participation in the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library and Kindle Unlimited, higher royalties in some countries, free days and countdown deals, etc.), Amazon requires 90 days of exclusivity. That means more than 10% of your e-book better not be distributed anywhere else—paid or free—during that time period.
